The Liverpool Word was founded and created by Karl Matchett and David Hendrick, two lifelong Reds fans and writers with experience in bringing quality articles to life for other supporters to read.

The purpose of this website is not merely to regurgitate the same old tired stories appearing on every media site and transfer rumours blog, but instead to offer insightful and original content to followers of Liverpool FC, and indeed the wider football community.

We’ll be writing opinion pieces, statistical and tactical analysis of Liverpool’s matches, rankings and lists and even bringing you live commentary either direct on this site or through our other writing homes.

Stay tuned to the site as we get set up and make sure follow us on Twitter and Facebook (links below) and leave your comments on any article you feel like—you’ll be as much a part of this experience as we will. We also appreciate you sharing our articles on your own Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts.

Thanks, TLW.

Writers

Karl Matchett lives, works and writes from Spain. Having gained substantial experience in online football writing and the odd print publication, working his way up the non-league ladder of voluntary sports editorials, he now gets paid to do this for a living and gladly uses watching football on TV as an excuse to cover the term “working”. Greatest career almost-highlights include successive 2nd place finishes in the Fantasy Football league, and commentating on the Reds’ League Cup final win of 2012 [edit - I finally won the Euro 2012 fantasy football league. Result]. Watches mostly English, Spanish, Russian and German football, loves playing with three at the back and drinks a lot of tea.

Dave Hendrick is the grumpy rambling old(ish) man of the TLW staff. Having wasted far too many years in the world of insurance he decided to pack in real work and focus on writing, primarily sports writing and specifically writing about Liverpool Football Club. The owner of a fine collection of half written screenplays, novels and other assorted rubbish he has returned to education in September of 2012 to study journalism and new media in the hope that someone will eventually give him a job. May be slightly in love with Jennifer Morrison, utterly detests Christian Purslow and those associated with him (Hicks, Gillett and Hodgson, you are all on that list).

Stuart Quigley is a football obsessive and a heavy drinker – mostly because years of watching Liverpool has shot his nerves.  Hopelessly in love with all aspects of the beautiful game and someone who has been known to string the odd melodramatic metaphor together while being nowhere near as pretentious as his words make him out to be.  Writer of two unpublished novels, a handful of screenplays and for a year dabbled in the world of stand up comedy.  Philosophically split right down the middle between the cold hard statistical analysis and the wild emotions that that come with watching football.

Michael Luscombe is an English Literature student at the University of East Anglia, who, had he spent as much time reading last year as he did watching football would probably be achieving far better grades… An optimistic, glass usually half full. Amateur writer, not aspiring to be a journalist but enjoy the beautiful game too much not to write about it in some capacity. Struggles to detest Michael Owen after growing up wanting to be him. Budweiser drinker. Winger/Striker. Spends too much time trying to emulate Neymar whilst playing 6-a-side. Lover of 4-3-3.

Matt Volpi approaches life, and football, with an eclectic mixture of soul-crushing cynicism and infectious positivity. Living on a steady diet of fast food, alcohol and cigarettes, he has long since realised that Liverpool are one of the few things that can break the mundaneness of a normal day. Staunch defender of Jordan Henderson, and also a loving fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Fight Club, Grand Theft Auto, Fantasy Football and The US Office, Matt’s spends the majority of his time writing music or articles, hoping desperately that someday someone will be stupid enough to think that’s worthy of a payslip.

Michael Kline is a fourth-year philosophy student in south-east Louisiana. He doesn’t quite remember how he became a Louisiana-Scouser, but he is thankful that he did. A student of the game, Michael is obsessed with tactical analysis, Twitter arguments and Daniel Agger’s tattoos. And while football compilation videos do tickle his fancy, he absolutely loathes the music that goes along with them (nothing says football like Avril Lavigne!). When he isn’t reading, writing or watching Liverpool content, he is busy trampling poor souls in FIFA 12 (soon to be 13).

Tony Lucadamo is a bar owner and graduate student currently residing in Charlottesville, Virginia. While studying at Oxford University he fell in love with the “beautiful game” as part of a larger initiative to acclimate himself to the Keble College Pub. A few Guinness later, and things haven’t changed. Tony now covers all things Liverpool for three online media publications. His current life goal is attaining gold card status at Starbuck’s — and he is well on his way.
